If you grab a dry towel and start rubbing vigorously to get it dry faster, you will inevitably do more damage than good to your beard! Beard hair has a growth cycle. As it reaches the end of that, the hair becomes easier to break.
The proper way to dry you beard with a towel is to pat it dry. Squeeze as much water from the beard as possible without using too much force. Steady pressure applied with a (dry) towel will soak up more water with less damage.
